“Civilisation is that mode of conduct which points out to man the path of duty.”
With these words M.K. Gandhi defined ‘true’ civilisation. For him, performance of duty is observance of morality. It is the idea of the moral, which points to us ‘good conduct’. Gandhi argues that observance of morality opens up before us the possibility of knowing the self. A civilisation is ‘true’ only when it allows human being to know themselves.
