While the state of Gujarat was founded only as recently as 1960, its history can be traced back to the end of the 4th century B.C.Various findings have proved that the cultural life of Gujarat is no less than 4,000 years old. Resplendent with temples, mosques and churches, Gujarat has historically been home to multi-ethnic and multi-religious communities, making its heritage rich and varied. Gujarat is also the land of Mahatma Gandhi, a man known and revered worldwide for his philosophy of non-violence. Tragic irony then, that it is now the seat of intense conflict.
