‘‘Realising Rama’ inquires into the idea of a selfless leadership which can be acquired only after wealth, lust, power and ego is relinquished: that is when true wisdom and compassion prevails. Relevant to all times, the epic ‘Ramayana’ transcends geographic, political and religious boundaries to bring together an exhilarating dance drama by performers from 10 Asean countries. The formidable task of ‘realising the production’ was executed by librettist, Nicanor Tiongson, choreographer, Denisa G. Reyes and set and costume designer, Salvador F. Bernal of the Philippines. Hailed as “An intelligent theatrical masterpiece that strikes at the heart of being Asian”,it reminds us that the ‘ramayana’ was written by a sage-author as an enlightened text on human falacies, rather than a religious manual that is increasingly misused.
