Mapping his own trajectory of Kathak-based dance, Akram Khan's work is recognised for its elegance and mathematical precision. He has collaborated with Anish Kapoor, who designed his set for Kaash and his most recent work, MA, is in collaboration with words by Hanif Kureishi. Here, Khan not only investigates the universal concept of ‘Mother' but engages one in queries about the condition of the world today; of our being deaf to mother Earth, which constantly warns us of the dreadful consequences of neglect. Akram Khan is a London-born Kathak dancer-choreographer with Bangladeshi roots. Caught as he is, between two cultures, Khan's performances echo queries that have invaded his head since boyhood – when, he hung upside-down from a tree to let the weight of his thoughts pour into the earth.
