The visual arts from the late 20th century to date did not develop in Bangladesh under the sophisticated patronage of a privileged class. Visual creativity flourished from an innate compulsion of artists to express themselves with or without western-style schooling, especially as a conscious awareness of the Bangladeshi social structure. It therefore, has the character of a social movement.
