Parallel Portraits:

In convesation with Maryam Zandi and Ebrahim Haghighi
by Hady Chapardar
Photographer Maryam Zandi and graphic artist Ebrahim Haghighi collaborated on a project they named Akkashi — a phrase culled out of combining two Persian words: Akkashi (photography) and Naghashi (painting). Photopaint might be a good translation of Akkashi in English. The Akkashi project was Haghighi’s graphic work on Zandi’s portraits of Iranian contemporary painters. Not only does this series reflect the photographer and artist’s individual skills, it also offers an interesting glimpse into a significant range of Iranian artists and their oeuvre. Hady Chapardar, film critic and writer, engages in a trialogue with the photographer and graphic artist.
