A PHOTOGRAPHER AND THE SUBTEXT by NAZIF TOPÇUOGLU
by NAZIF TOPÇUOGLU

“I have come to realise that the basic human themes have not changed much in history as subjects of art,
‘the human condition’, suffering and struggle, and battles of will and power... I seem to have become more
cynical [with age] and do not believe in the power of art to change anything.
There is so much complacency around [including in the art community], so it amuses me to make subversive
work with hidden meanings.
Unfortunately, art itself is totally irrelevant to the realities of 98% of the world population”.
