Going beyond the labyrinth, crossing divides, attempting to touch
the vortex of another consciousness, Navjot uprooted herself from
her urban milieu to enter the orbit of the Adivasi or tribal world
of Bastar in Madhya Pradesh, Central India. In this ground-space,
time flows replete with the dual elements of deeply primordial energies
and the immediacy of the present.
It is an arena where the Adivasi and the urban worlds interface.
Myth, magic, ancient mores and rituals strongly permeate the Adivasi
consciousness. Yet, there is a symbiosis, perhaps a wary uneasy
one, between the vigorous tribal inheritance of an empowered self-awareness
intimately bonded with the environment, and the lateral onslaught
of urban impulses that enter their world.
