They turned down Nike, they sing anti-Nazi songs at radio interviews and share equal royalties with their road crew. A self-proclaimed anarchist punk band, Chumbawamba reached star-status last year with their hit, Tubthumpin’, which struck the top of Billboard’s chart, sold three million copies, and was on the soundtrack of Home Alone 3.

The song is a far cry from the octuple’s first album in 1986, Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records, and 1995’s Show Business featuring lectures by Noam Chomsky, but it doesn’t mean that Chumbawamba has given up its anarchist or anti-fascist ways. Far from it. Chumbawamba’s spokesman and guitarist/vocalist, Boff, discusses the issue that changed his life and is central to the group’s concerns: Racism.
